Here is some tip I picked up from the newsgroup about why the 28-105 USM is better than the default 28-80 lens that comes in a kit. I have shot a lot using 28-105 and though i can't compare with 28-80 I can atleast say that its fast and good. ======================================================================= Subject: Re: Canon Elan II kit (28-80/3.5-5.6 lens) query Date: Tue, 22 Jul 1997 21:15:33 -0700 From: "Steve" Organization: All USENET -- http://www.Supernews.com Newsgroups: rec.photo.equipment.35mm References: 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 Kevin D. It also has internal focusing and a ring-USM motor. Those two traits combine to give: Full Time Manual, lightning fast AF, a non-rotating filter thread, and a distance scale. On top of all of that, the 28-105 is constructed better (higher mechanical quality) and has a faster aperture (f/4.5) at 105mm than the 28-80 has at 80mm (f/5.6) BTW, I have owned the 28-80 USM III and I currently own the 28-105 USM. I have taken apart a 28-105 USM (not mine, thanks Tim ). >The local camera stores say there isn't a >noticeable difference, but I think they just want to sell the kits in >stock. The store is trying to sell you what they want to sell you. I have noticed a difference between the 28-105 and 28-80, especially wide open. :- ) Steve
